Leaving or dissolving a household

What happens to your data when you leave, remove a member or close a household entirely.

Updated 19 June 2026

A household changes with life: a flatmate moves out, a situation changes, or you simply no longer need the shared view. Noryo lets you leave, remove a member or close the household at any time. This article details each case and, above all, what becomes of your data.

Your personal data stays yours

Leaving a household or dissolving it never deletes your accounts, your transactions or your personal documents. Only the household's shared view is affected.

Three situations to tell apart

The three ways to end participation in the household.
ActionWho can do itWhat is affected
Leave the householdAny member, for themselvesYou leave the shared view; your data stays intact
Remove a memberThe ownerThe member loses access to the shared view; their data stays theirs
Dissolve the householdThe ownerThe household is closed for everyone; each person keeps their data

Leaving a household

Any member can leave the household of their own accord, without having to ask permission. As soon as you leave, you no longer see the shared view and you stop contributing to it. Your accounts, your budgets, your goals and your documents follow you: they did not depend on the household.

  • You lose access to the household's shared view.
  • The other members no longer see what you shared there.
  • Your personal data stays unchanged on your account.
  • You can be re-invited later if needed.

Removing a member

The household owner can remove a member, for example when a person leaves the home. The removed member then loses access to the shared view, but keeps all of their own data. It is a reversible action: you can re-invite them later.

Settle any open Notebooks first

If you were sharing expenses in a Notebook, settle the accounts before the departure so everyone starts on a clear footing.

Dissolving the household

Dissolving the household closes it for everyone. The shared view disappears and the roles no longer apply. Here again, no one loses their information: each member leaves with their accounts, their budgets and their documents. It is a decision reserved for the owner.

  1. Let the members know

Announce the closure to avoid any surprise.

  2. Settle the Notebooks

Finish the open repayments and export the useful summaries.

  3. Dissolve from the Household space

The owner closes the household; the shared view is removed for everyone.

What about the inheritance vault?

The inheritance vault is a feature separate from the household: it lets you designate trusted contacts who can access certain documents read-only after a long period of inactivity on your part. Leaving or dissolving a household has no effect on your inheritance vault, which is set up and revoked separately.

Frequently asked questions

Will I lose my transactions by leaving the household?

No. Your accounts and transactions are personal and stay attached to your own account.

Can a removed member come back?

Yes. The owner can re-invite them by email at any time.

Is dissolution reversible?

The closed household is not restored, but you can create a new one and re-invite the members.

To check before you leave

Remember to export the Notebook summaries you want to keep: once you have left the household, you no longer have access to its shared view.
