Refine a custom category

Updated on 19 June 2026

Create and adjust your own categories so your spending matches your reality, not the other way around.

Noryo's categories are organized into broad families (housing, transport, food, and so on). When one of them doesn't reflect your habits closely enough, you can refine it for tailored tracking. This guide shows you how to do it in just a few minutes.

Steps

  1. Open a transaction to reclassify

From the transaction list, tap an item that deserves its own category to open its details.

  2. Change its category

In the details, choose to change the category. If the category you want doesn't exist yet, create a new one with a clear name.

  3. Name and organize your category

Give it a meaningful name and attach it to the right family so it stays consistent with the rest of your tracking.

  4. Apply it to your past transactions

Reclassify similar items already present so your history stays readable and comparable.

  5. Automate with a rule

Create a rule such as all payments from this merchant so future items automatically join your category.

Keeping your categories in good shape

  • Avoid overlapping meanings, two categories that are too similar blur your statistics.
  • Rename without hesitation if a label is no longer clear.
  • Set a monthly budget on your key categories to steer them over time.
