FAQ: Rules and Recategorization
Updated on 18 June 2026
Common questions about category modification and automatic rules.
Everything you need to know to properly classify your transactions and automate their categorization.
Why is a transaction miscategorized?
The initial category is an estimate based on the label provided by your bank. This label is sometimes ambiguous or abbreviated, which can lead to an approximate classification. Simply correct it from the transaction details.
What is the difference between recategorizing and creating a rule?
Recategorizing corrects a single transaction. Creating a rule goes further: the chosen category then applies to all payments from the merchant, both present and future. Use a simple correction for an isolated case, and a rule for a recurring merchant.
Does a rule apply to past payments?
Yes. When you create a rule for a merchant, it also organizes existing payments from that merchant, not just future ones.
Can I modify or cancel a rule?
Yes, your rules remain under your control. You can change the category associated with a merchant at any time, and the affected transactions will be reclassified accordingly.
Does recategorizing modify anything on the bank’s side?
No. All these modifications only affect your tracking in Noryo. Access to your accounts is strictly read-only: no information is sent back to your bank, and no money movement can be triggered.
Are category changes synchronized?
Yes. A corrected category or a rule created on one device will appear on all your devices once synchronization is complete.
Does recategorizing update my budgets?
Yes, immediately. Moving a transaction from one category to another updates the affected budgets and all your category-based analyses.
