FAQ: scanning and document quality
Updated on 19 June 2026
Answers to the frequently asked questions about scanning documents on iPhone and iPad and about the quality of files added to the vault.
Scanning is the fastest way to file a paper in your vault. Here are the questions that come up most often about scanning and about the quality of the documents you add.
Can I scan a document from the web?
Camera scanning is available on iPhone and iPad. On the web, you do not have a dedicated camera, but you can import a file already on your computer (image or PDF), which gives the same result.
Which file formats are accepted?
You can add images in JPG, PNG and HEIC formats, as well as PDF files. A size limit applies per file.
How do I get a good-quality scan?
A few simple habits make all the difference, both for readability and for content search.
- Lay the document flat on a contrasting surface
- Get the lighting right and avoid cast shadows and glare
- Frame the whole document, without cutting off the edges
- Hold the device nicely parallel to the sheet
Can I scan several pages into a single document?
Yes. When scanning on iPhone or iPad, capture the pages one after another: they are grouped into a single document, easier to keep and to share than a series of separate files.
Why does a careful scan help to find the document?
Noryo recognises the content of your documents for search. A sharp, well-framed scan makes this recognition more reliable: you can then find the document by typing a word that appears in it, even months later.
A scan is blurry or failed, what do I do?
The simplest is to redo the scan in better conditions, then replace the old one. Remember to rename the document clearly along the way, so you file it directly in the right folder.
Are my scans safe?
Yes. Like all documents in the vault, your scans are encrypted and hosted in Europe. On iPhone and iPad, you can also protect access to them with Face ID or Touch ID.
