Understanding the succession vault
The principle of a read-only access passed on to trusted loved ones after prolonged inactivity.
What becomes of your important documents if, one day, you can no longer access them yourself? The succession vault answers this question gently and carefully. It lets you designate trusted loved ones who, after prolonged inactivity on your part, will be able to view your documents in read-only mode. This article explains the principle, its safeguards and its limits before you get started.
The succession vault is part of the Ultra plan. You can check your plan from the Subscription screen in the app.
The principle in a few words
You choose one or more trusted contacts and an inactivity threshold (for example several months without signing in). As long as you use Noryo normally, nothing happens: each sign-in resets the counter. Only after prolonged inactivity, and after warnings, can read-only access open up for your contacts.
You designate your trusted contacts
One or more people to pass access on to when the time comes.
You set an inactivity threshold
The length of time without signing in beyond which the mechanism starts.
The counter resets at each sign-in
As long as you are active, nothing is triggered.
Warnings are sent
Before anything is triggered, you are notified so you can react.
Read-only access opens
Your contacts can then view, without changing anything.
What your contacts can and cannot do
| Action | Possible for the contact |
|---|---|
| View your documents | |
| Change or delete your documents | — |
| Access your bank accounts | — |
| Carry out a transaction on your behalf | — |
The succession vault never gives access to your banking transactions or the right to change anything. It is only about viewing documents.
You stay in control, always
- You freely choose your trusted contacts and can change them
- You set and adjust the inactivity threshold whenever you want
- Each sign-in resets the counter to zero
- The mechanism can be revoked at any time
- Warnings give you time to react before anything is triggered
What the succession vault is not
This mechanism is a practical convenience to make it easier for your loved ones to access useful documents. It does not replace the legal steps involved in a succession (will, notary, official formalities). Think of it as a complement, not a legal act.
Frequently asked questions
What happens if I sign in just before the deadline?
The inactivity counter starts again from zero. As long as you stay active, access never opens.
Can I cancel after setting everything up?
Yes. The mechanism is fully revocable at any time.
Are my contacts warned in advance?
Triggering only happens after prolonged inactivity and after warnings sent to you, so you can react.
Tell your trusted contacts that you have designated them. The mechanism works best when everyone knows it exists.
