Expenses and subscriptions: frequently asked questions

Updated on 18 June 2026

Answers to common questions about manual expenses, categories, subscriptions, and duplicates.

Here are the most frequently asked questions about your expenses, their categorization, and your subscriptions. If yours isn’t listed, the Nory assistant and contact form are at your disposal.

How do I add an expense paid in cash?

Cash payments do not appear on your bank accounts. Add them as manual expenses by specifying the amount and category so they are included in your budgets, distribution, and calendar.

A transaction is in the wrong category: how do I correct it?

Open the transaction details and select the correct category. To avoid repeating this, create a rule such as all payments from this merchant: future similar payments will be automatically categorized.

How do categorization rules work?

A rule links a merchant to a category. Once created, it applies to future payments from that merchant, saving you from recategorizing the same recurring expense each month.

How does Noryo detect my subscriptions?

Noryo identifies payments that recur at regular intervals and flags them as subscriptions, with a confidence score. A lower score means a manual check on your part is helpful.

I received a price increase alert: what does this mean?

Noryo has detected that the amount charged for a subscription has increased. The alert shows the old and new amounts. This is often a good time to check if the subscription is still worth its price, renegotiate, or cancel it.

Noryo says I am paying for a duplicate service: is that possible?

Yes. Noryo detects duplicates, sometimes paid from two different banks, for example after a card change or a subscription taken out twice without realizing it. Removing the duplicate is an immediate saving.

Can Noryo cancel a subscription for me?

No. Noryo guides you on the steps to take and gathers useful information, but the final cancellation must be done with the service in question, which remains your point of contact.

Why does a canceled subscription still appear?

As long as a final charge hasn’t gone through, the subscription may remain visible. It will disappear once payments have truly stopped on your accounts.
