Create a folder and file your documents in it

Updated on 18 June 2026

Create a custom folder, move your documents into it, and keep a clear vault, by project, by property, or by person.

Ready-to-use folders cover the essentials, but sometimes you will want more personal organization: a folder per child, per home, per trip, or per project. Creating a custom folder takes a few seconds and makes all the difference when finding things later.

  1. Open your vault

Go to the documents area of the app.

  2. Create a folder

    Choose the create folder option.

  3. Name it clearly

Give it a meaningful name, for example Paris Home or Summer Trip, so you recognize it at a glance.

  4. Add your documents

Drop new documents directly into this folder, by scan, by import, or by deposit email.

  5. Move the ones already there

From the details of a document already in your vault, change its folder to file it in the right place.

Name things well to find them well

The folder name and the document name work together with search. A clear folder plus a well-named document, and you can lay your hands on any paper in seconds, by filter or by content search.

  • Avoid names that are too vague, like Miscellaneous, which end up holding everything.
  • For yearly documents, add the year in the folder or document name.
  • Group together what you consult together: a folder per property gathers the lease, insurance, and related invoices.

Keeping a vault clear over time

A few minutes of tidying now and then is enough to keep a vault pleasant. Use a calm moment, for example at the end of the month, to file recent additions and remove what is no longer needed.
