Using a passkey to recover your account

No longer have access to the email or phone number linked to your account? If you saved a passkey, you have a strong way to regain control. A passkey authenticates you directly and lets you replace the factor you have lost, rather than just resetting a password.

Recovering with your passkey

Recovery always happens in three steps. Your passkey comes in at the proof step.

1. <strong>Identify</strong>: enter the old email or phone number of the account to recover.
2. <strong>Prove it's you</strong>: authenticate with your passkey.
3. <strong>Replace the lost factor</strong>: set a new email or a new phone number.

After a successful recovery

• All open sessions are signed out: you sign back in with your new factor.
• A security event is logged and a notification is sent to you.
• The old email or phone number can no longer be used to sign in or to identify you.
