Understanding bank synchronization
Updated on 18 June 2026
How Noryo retrieves your transactions, how often, and what the app can or cannot do with your accounts.
Bank synchronization is the mechanism that lets Noryo display your accounts, balances and transactions without you having to enter anything by hand. Once your bank is linked, your data arrives automatically and stays up to date. This article explains in detail how it works, what is retrieved, how often, and what you need to know to read what you see correctly.
The principle: a secure, read-only connection
Noryo connects to your bank through open banking, a framework governed by the European PSD2 regulation. In practice, you authorise your bank to share a copy of your account information with Noryo. This authorisation is read-only: Noryo can view your balances and transactions, but can never make a payment, a transfer or any action on your money.
What Noryo retrieves
Once the connection is established, Noryo receives the information needed to manage your finances. Here is what is synchronized, and what never is.
- The list of your linked accounts (current, savings, sometimes cards), with their balance
- Your transactions: amount, date, merchant label, and an automatically inferred category
- A few account details useful for display, such as the currency
How often your data updates
Synchronization is automatic and happens several times a day. You can also trigger a manual sync at any time from your accounts screen, for example right after a large purchase. The very first sync after a new connection can take a little longer, because Noryo then retrieves your history.
Understanding a balance difference
Sometimes the balance shown in Noryo differs slightly from the one in your banking app. This is almost always due to pending transactions: a card payment authorised but not yet finally debited, for example. Once the transaction is settled on the bank side, the difference resolves automatically at the next sync.
How many banks you can link
The number of banks you can connect depends on your plan. You can link joint accounts and business accounts like any other account.
