Make the most of monthly budgets

Category limits, progress bar, orange and red alerts: get the most out of your budgets on a daily basis.

Updated 19 June 2026

A monthly budget is a limit you set for a spending category. Noryo then tracks your payments in real time and shows you where you stand. When properly set, your budgets become a simple dashboard to avoid tight end-of-month situations. Here’s how to get the most out of them.

Available on every plan

Budgets are available on every plan, starting with Free. Set as many limits as you like.

What a budget is for

Instead of manually tracking every expense, you set an amount not to exceed for a category (e.g., groceries, outings, or transportation). Noryo automatically adds up your transactions in that category for the month and compares the total to your limit.

Reading the progress bar

Each budget displays a bar that fills up as you spend, showing the amount already spent and the remaining amount. At a glance, you know if you still have room or if you need to slow down.

  1. Comfortable margin

The bar is far from the cap, you are spending at an easy pace.

  2. Orange alert

You are nearing the cap, it is time to watch the spending in this category.

  3. Red alert

The cap is exceeded, your spending has crossed the limit you set yourself.

Choosing the right limit

The most common pitfall is setting a limit too low, which turns red by mid-month and eventually gets ignored. To start, base your limit on your actual spending from previous months, visible in the category breakdown, then set a limit slightly below if you want to improve.

Start with two or three budgets

No need to restrict everything at once. Choose the categories where you really want to stay disciplined (often groceries, outings, or online shopping) and add more once the habit is established.

Adjust month after month

A budget can be modified or deleted at any time. If a limit is consistently exceeded without you overspending, it may not reflect your reality: adjust it. Conversely, if you consistently stay well under it each month, you can tighten it to free up savings.

Budgets and savings goals

The two complement each other: budgets structure your spending, while savings goals give a purpose to what you set aside. The margin you free up from a budget can fund a goal, like a vacation or an emergency fund.

Frequently asked questions about budgets

Does the budget reset every month?

Yes, tracking starts over at the beginning of each month to compare your spending with the cap over the current period.

Is cash spending counted?

If you add your manual expenses with the right category, they are taken into account in the matching budget.

Can I have several budgets?

Yes, you can frame as many categories as you wish depending on your plan.

Realistic and well-monitored budgets turn good intentions into lasting habits. Set them once, let Noryo handle the tracking, and adjust when your life changes.
