What to do when in doubt about a transaction

An unknown transaction, a surprising amount, a duplicate: how to react calmly and in the right place.

Updated 19 June 2026

Seeing a transaction you do not recognise can be surprising. Most of the time, the explanation is simple and harmless. This page helps you stay calm, check the right things in Noryo, and above all know when the matter is for your bank rather than the app.

Noryo never touches your money

The app reads your accounts in read-only mode. It cannot make any payment or transfer. A transaction visible in Noryo has always taken place at your bank, never because of the app.

The most frequent explanations

Before worrying, go through these common causes. They cover the vast majority of doubts.

Why a transaction can surprise you

Different merchant name
A shop sometimes appears under its registered company name or a technical name, which does not look like the everyday brand.
Pending transaction
A recent payment may show before being finally cleared, which creates a temporary balance difference.
Payment in instalments
A purchase paid in several instalments appears as several successive lines.
Forgotten subscription
A recurring charge you had lost sight of. Noryo is designed precisely to help you spot them.

Check in Noryo

Open the details of the transaction in question. There you will see its category, and you can add a note or attach a document, for example an invoice, to remember its origin. If the categorisation is wrong, you can recategorise the transaction and create a rule so that future payments from this merchant are categorised automatically.

  • Search the merchant name to see the history of your similar payments.
  • Check whether it is a recurring transaction you already know.
  • Compare the date and amount with any receipt.

Spotting a duplicate

Noryo detects subscriptions paid twice across several banks and flags price increases. If you spot a duplicate, the app can guide you towards cancelling it, it being understood that the final step is always taken directly with the relevant service.

When the matter is for your bank

In case of suspected fraud, contact your bank

If a transaction is truly unknown and you suspect fraud, it is your bank you must contact without delay. Only your bank can block a card, dispute a payment or act on the account. Noryo cannot.

What to do with a questionable transaction?

Noryo's role and limits

Noryo is a tool to track and understand your finances. It helps you see clearly, categorise and plan ahead. It replaces neither your bank for operations, nor an adviser for decisions. If you are in doubt about the very nature of a transaction, your bank remains the reference point of contact.
